Stuart started smoking when he was 8 years old. Cigarettes were so accessible at the time, either left around by family members or purchasable from the local convenient store who would sell to children in school uniform.
When he was smoking heavily, he would get strong withdrawals if he wasn’t smoking for 4 or 5 hours. This would lead to dizziness and fatigue. He was constantly short of breath and had difficulty sleeping.
He said: “I’ve got three kids and I didn’t want them to take up smoking. I’m kind of the bread winner for the family and if something were to happen to me, health wise, well, they would be screwed.”
6 months ago he switched to vaping and he hasn’t touched a cigarette since. He believes he isn’t even addicted to the nicotine anymore and aims to stop vaping as well in the near future.
Stuart is a big outdoors person and is out on the water a lot. When he was smoking he found it difficult to do all of the things he loved with ease.
He said: “I really noticed the difference for the first time last week when I raced my son across an oval back to the car and it wasn’t until I sat in the car that I noticed I wasn’t out of breath at all.”
